The largest constituent country of the United Kingdom by both area and population. It is subdivided into nine regions and shares borders with Scotland and Wales.


Scotland

The UK’s northernmost constituent country, bordered by England to the south. The country also includes over 790 islands.


Wales

Bordered by England to the east, Wales has retained a distinct identity and is officially a bilingual country. The majority of Wales’ population reside in its cities in the south.


Northern Ireland

The only part of the UK to have an international land border – shared with the Republic of Ireland. Variously described as a country, province or region, it is the smallest part of the UK.

UK Population Stats

The total population of the United Kingdom according to the Office for National Statistics, as of 2017 is 66,040,229. This ranks the UK as the 21st most populated country in the world; fourth in Europe after Russia, Germany and France. There are 704 people per sq. mi. making the UK the sixth most densely populated country in Europe. 84% of the UK population resides in England, as shown in the figure on the right.
