Wales is a constituent country in the United Kingdom, bordered by England to its east and the Irish Sea to its west. Wales has a population of three million, making it the UK’s third largest constituent country by both population and area. 

Since 1996, Wales has been subdivided into 22 principal areas, for purposes of local government. For ceremonial purposes, Wales is also divided into eight preserved counties:
